The engines that pull our trains may seem small compared to others, however their history and where they’ve run and worked throughout their life is very extensive indeed!

Dennis

Constructed originally for Weston-Super-Mare Miniature Railway originally call ‘Hiawatha’.  Now owned by Peter Bryant and has worked at High Legh since 2019.

Dylan

Dennis’s brother locomotive.  Constructed originally for Weston-Super-Mare Miniature Railway. Now owned by Peter Bryant and has worked at High Legh since 2019.

Engine-3

The Hymek

Constructed by Cromer White for Weston-Super-Mare Miniature Railway now owned by Peter Bryant.  Came to high Legh in 2023.

Engine-4

T68 Tram

Originally condtructed for the Pugney’s Light Railway, came to High Legh in 2014 and has been running since 1997.

Intercity Class 91

Built in 1992 by Arnold Bimpson, and worked until 2001 before it was restored in 2025 at High Legh Miniature Railway by Caleb Lovegrove.

Merlin

Constructed from scratch at High Legh Miniature railway by resident volunteer Steve Caslin, very popular with its bright yellow paintwork.

The U-boat – AKA ‘Neveille John’

Started construction in 2020 at Halton Miniature Railway then moved to High Legh Miniature Railway in 2021.  Completed in 2022.  Now owned by John Cartright and John Ryan.

Holmside

Owned privately but kept at High Legh Miniature Railway and runs on special occasions.

Originally built by Fred Livsey now owned by Josh Ryan and High Legh resident engine

Best Mate – Sweet William Class Engine 

Completely rebuilt at High Legh Miniature Railway. Owned by Steve Caslin.

BNSF GP40

Very nice Diesel Hydraulic locomotive built by Brian Biggs of the Brighouse club. Now owned by High Legh and regularly running on weekends.
